Senior Litigation Law Clerk
Rogers Communications, headquartered in Toronto, is Canada's national communications company, engaged in three primary lines of business - wireless, cable and media. The legal department, comprised of more than 20 lawyers, is currently looking to fill a Senior Law Clerk position.
Working in a fast-paced, collegial atmosphere, the Senior Law Clerk, is an integral part of the legal team and also works closely with members of the regulatory, customer service, and other cross-functional departments.
What you will be doing:
- The successful candidate will be key in supporting various legal claims, disputes, and requests.
- Provide guidance/direction to customer supporting groups on the handling and direction of Power of Attorney, Death Certificate, Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee, Garnishments and other legal documents.
- Review and respond to disclosure requests received from a customers solicitor, tribunal requests and court orders and/or summons
- Provide consultation and direction on issues relating to legal and procedural compliance.
- Proofreading and checking all documents and communications
- Oversee Small Claims and Superior Court matters, including the review and drafting of pleadings and legal documents.
- Support the litigation teams functions and ensure proper responses
- Conduct legal research
What you have:
- Successfully completed an accredited law clerk program
- ILCO Fellowship certification (preferred)
- 10+ years of work experience at a law firm
- Knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure
- In-depth knowledge of legal terminology
- Experience working in a fast pace environment
- Strong technical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong legal drafting skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced and rapidly changing environment with or without direct authority
- Ability to network across various departments and build solid relationships
- Sound analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills with an ability to understand broad complex legal issues
