E-DISCOVERY SERVICES PROJECT MANAGER
Job Summary
The E-Discovery Services Project Manager (EDS PM) reports to the Senior Director, Paraprofessional and E- Discovery Services. The EDS PM will be responsible for managing E-Discovery projects on a day-to-day basis in the Ontario region, working closely with the Firm’s lawyers, law clerks and other members of the EDS Group. The EDS PM will be responsible for adhering to the established protocols and procedures for litigation file management, overseeing proper completion of matters in accordance with the firm’s Discovery Protocol, working with and training lawyers and law clerks and other staff members on the use of litigation specific analytic and review technologies, assisting with document database management and preparation of documents for production. The EDS PM will be responsible for performing high level analytical tasks, including: consulting with case teams, clients and vendors in order to solve problems and provide solutions, staying current with leading E-Discovery software for evidence management, document production and presentation, assisting with vendor management and litigation specific technology training.

Primary Responsibilities
Case Management
- Serve as a technology-focused project lead on assigned cases and during specific phases of the E-Discovery process.
- Work with legal teams to plan discovery projects for both electronically stored information (ESI) and paper, including identification, preservation, collection, processing, review and production of client evidence.
- Ensure that all case content and document management, and database administrative functions are performed to meet the needs of the case teams.
- Consulting with legal team regarding best practices for document management, electronic discovery and matter workflow
- Prepare recommendations, budgets and project plans, collection and preservation plans and overall discovery plans
- Communicate with legal team on discovery management issues
- Report to the case teams and EDS Team Lead and Senior Director on project status
- Co-ordinate collection efforts with vendor or client when needed
- Enter and update project details in case tracking metrics and task management databases
- Attend litigation practice group, EDS group and case team meetings when required
- Work with the Senior Director and Team Lead on staffing cases, projects, project plans and budgets for case support, and long-term firm initiatives.
- Participate in the active oversight, development, and tactical evaluation of more junior EDS staff.
Training
- Conduct and otherwise participate in the training, coaching, and mentoring of lawyers and paralegals at all levels in the best and most efficient use of the EDS supported software tools and techniques.
- Assist Senior Director and EDS Team Lead with design of E-Discovery technology training materials.
Vendor/Software Management
- Co-ordinate with consultants, vendors and firm IT staff to ensure proper delivery of services to case teams; staying current on litigation-related technology and processes in the industry.
- Describe and report system and software problems to vendor for resolution. Advise and recommend on vendor selection and coordinate vendor contact and relations
- Support and encourage use of Managed Services Agreement for delivery of E-Discovery Services
- Assess and monitor litigation lawyer and law clerk use of technology.
Data Analysis
- Collect, maintain and analyze project metrics for incoming client data
- Provide assistance with discovery data analytics, processing and productions as needed
Other
- Execute multiple priorities and projects as needed
- Contribute to the preparation of EDS departmental publications/presentations/documentation for CLE
- Identify and implement quality and change management procedures on an ongoing basis
Required Knowledge and Experience
- A Law Clerk, Paralegal or Legal Administration diploma is preferred
- 5-7 years’ experience in a legal or vendor environment with a minimum of 2 years managing electronic discovery projects
- Completion of Relativity Certified User or other Relativity certifications required. Relativity Certified Administrator certification is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of various litigation support and E-Discovery software applications (Relativity, Summation, LAW Pre-Discovery, Nuix, Trial Director)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook and Excel
- Solid understanding of the Litigation process, specifically the Document Discovery Phase
- Knowledge of the EDRM (Electronic Document Discovery Reference Model)
- Knowledge of the Sedona Canada Principles 2nd Edition
- Knowledge of Court Rules and Practices related to electronic document discovery
Supervision
This role reports to the Senior Director, Paraprofessionals and E-Discovery Services.
