Litigation Clerk
Pape Salter Teillet LLP is looking for an experienced litigation law clerk for its Toronto office. For over 40 years, we have been working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples to secure a constitutional and legal space that protects their lands, identities, cultures, economies, and self?government. With a growing practice in civil litigation, the litigation team is seeking a team member to work and support from our Toronto office. The candidate should have a Law Clerk Diploma, with three years of experience as a law clerk. The nature of the work will include both civil litigation work and some general administration. The successful candidate will be working with a small team of lawyers and law clerks.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Drafting correspondence;
- Preparation, service, and filing of Records, Affidavits of Documents, Affidavits, Bills of Costs, Court Pleadings and other court documents for multiple jurisdictions, including but not limited to the Federal Courts, and provincial Superior Courts and Courts of Appeal;
- Organizing and maintaining office files;
- Managing litigation matters from start to finish;
- Coordinating with process servers and court offices;
- Administrative tasks including filing, scanning, docketing.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum three years of Litigation experience;
- Certificate or Diploma from a recognized College Law clerk program;
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure for multiple jurisdictions;
- Proficient in the use and application of Word, Outlook, Excel, and Powerpoint;
- Experience using a Document Management System;
- Familiarity with tools for electronic document collection and processing;
- Experience with document preservation (litigation hold implementation);
- Experience with document review;
- Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with clients, lawyers, and court offices;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to work as a team player and independently as required.
