PROFILE

We are currently recruiting for an energetic, detail-oriented junior Law Clerk to join our dynamic team. As a member of the Law Clerk team, the incumbent will be responsible for providing support to professionals in the Advocacy department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

E-Discovery:

  • Organize and maintain documents in litigation support databases, perform database searches, and prepare productions.
  • Prepare litigation hold notices and implement litigation holds.
  • Assist with the identification, preservation and collection of electronic and hard copy documents from clients.
  • Organize and manage electronic document reviews.

General Litigation:

  • Prepare correspondence and court documents, including pleadings, judgments, orders, motion materials and affidavits of documents.
  • Prepare litigation briefs, summaries of evidence and bill of costs.
  • Review and summarize transcripts of examinations for discovery for undertakings, refusals and assembly of answers to undertakings.
  • Coordinate the serving and filing of documents.
  • Assist professionals and staff from other Gowling WLG offices with service, filing of court documents and obtaining copies of documents from various Toronto court offices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of accredited Law Clerk program.
  • At least 3 years of direct and practical experience working in commercial litigation and/or personal injury litigation
  • Experience with file intake and evaluation
  • Prior experience with drafting court documents and reports including pleadings and affidavits of documents
  • Strong eDiscovery skills, experience with document review platforms including Relativity and knowledge of e-filing protocols.
  • Excellent understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure and legal documentation and terminology.
  • Exceptional technical skills, including experience in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other Firm members, with the aptitude to take care of client needs in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to deal with changing priorities and busy practices, while adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and client service skills.
  • Confident and dependable with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and in a team oriented atmosphere.
  • Self starter, able to work in a remote environment with limited direct supervision
  • Willing to learn and adapt
