BLG’s Ottawa Financial Services team is looking for a resourceful and dynamic individual with a growth mindset that can help solve for today while building for the future.

Purpose of the Role

You have the knowledge; now experience the momentum with BLG. BLG Ottawa is seeking a Law Clerk with 2-3 years of experience in the legal field to join its Financial Services Group.

You will be a key member of the legal team working with the lawyers and legal support staff to provide the highest level of client service while having the opportunity to cultivate your skills as part of a dynamic and successful national team.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Support the Firm's financial services lawyers:
    • Prepare documents related to financing, such as security documents, priority agreements, opinions, resolutions, certificates, etc.
    • Coordinate searches (including personal property security, Bank Act, insolvency and litigation searches and analyze search results including preparing search report summaries).
    • Prepare and register security in various registers, such as the Personal Property Security Register.
  • Manage effectively and efficiently financings and/or projects under time-sensitive deadlines
  • Display effective analytical skills to conduct due diligence searches regionally and nationally
  • Support lawyers as a resource throughout the life cycle of a financial transaction
  • Display the essential attributes of professional behaviours, accountability and a positive can-do attitude

Key Competencies

The key competencies of this role are:

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in a financial services/commercial real estate with a focus on financing
  • Display strong writing skills with drafting financing, security and related agreements
  • Law Clerk Diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to take direction and work independently
  • Highly organized with time management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Closing Folders, OneSpan and Adobe
  • A team player with a strong work ethic and a desire for continuous improvement
