Junior Litigation Law Clerk
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education with a Law Clerk Certificate/Diploma or ILCO equivalent
- Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and statutes
- At least 1 year of relevant experience (cop-op and/or job placement accepted)
- Strong computer related skills, including MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with legal software such as Clio, ACL and PCLaw, would be considered an asset, however training will be provided
- Knowledge of E-Discovery concepts and Construction Lien Litigation would be considered an asset, however training will be provided
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills
- Ability to work independently within tight timelines
- Ability to multi-task and balance the priorities assigned
- Eagerness to learn and further develop skills as a Law Clerk
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to deal with clients
- Excellent attention to detail and diligent proofreading skills
- Passionate about providing quality service and work product to clients
Key Responsibilities:
- Review of client documents and preparation of electronic Affidavit of Documents
- Preparation of pleadings and other legal documents with some direction, often from precedents, in accordance with the Rules of the Small Claims Court, Rules of Civil Procedure and Construction Lien Act
- Trial preparation, including preparation of documents briefs and summonses to witness
- Reviewing and summarizing transcripts of examinations and preparing charts of undertakings, refusals, and under advisements
- Reviewing and assembling answers to undertakings
- Preparation of Bills of Cost and Costs Outlines
- Preparation of correspondence
- Other duties as assigned
