Law Clerk

We are seeking a law clerk to join our practice located in Keswick.

We are an established firm dedicated to providing exceptional service to our clients. We seek an experienced and proficient candidate who will be able to hit the ground running and is able to join our team as soon as possible.

Working in a team environment with experienced Law Clerks, Assistants and Lawyers, you will be responsible for handling legal and administrative work. A great attitude and emphasis on client experience is a must. 

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience as a litigation or municipal clerk, including experience with respect to the responsibilities outlined below. 

Responsibilities of this role include:

  • The ability to work independently preparing, formatting and editing legal documents, correspondence and document books;
  • Communicating with clients, opposing parties, court and tribunal staff;
  • Completing intake calls and emails with potential new clients;  
  • Draft Pleadings (Statements of Defence, Third Party Actions etc.), Bills of Costs, Notices of Motion, Affidavits of Documents etc;
  • Ability to manage files independently and to identify and meet deadlines;
  • Review and summarize records;
  • Trial preparation;
  • Excellent command of the Rules of Civil Procedure;
  • Working independently and as part of a team;
  • Keeping files organized and clients happy;
  • Managing calendar appointments and booking appointments including Zoom meetings;
  • Performing administrative work related to files including preparation of accounts and client billings, processing of payments, opening and closing files.

The successful candidate will be responsive, responsible and have good judgment. We are looking for someone who has a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail to provide support to the department with a focus on client service. Excellent time management and computer skills are a pre-requisite.

Qualifications

  • A Law Clerk diploma from an accredited institution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in civil litigation defence an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Soluno and ACL would be considered an asset.
