Immediate Opportunity for a Civil Litigation Law Clerk

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience

Candidate Requirements:

A law clerk diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of 4 years’ work experience as a civil litigation law clerk.

Excellent oral and written communication/advocacy skills.

Liaising with clients, working directly under lawyer and other staff to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Working independently with a proven ability to carry out law clerk responsibilities with minimal direction/supervision.  Responsible for preparation of all documents and correspondence.

A solid understanding of Ontario’s Rules Civil Procedure, especially with respect to court process and the requisite steps in litigation.

Excellent organizational skills; an ability to appropriately prioritize and to follow-up and to adapt to changing priorities.

Familiarity with PC law, Microsoft Outlook (emails, calendar), MS Word, and CanLii.

Familiarity with office administration and simple accounting skills.

Job Requirements:

Well-developed time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.

Ability to work as part of a team, along with lawyers and administrative staff, to ensure high-quality services and reputation of the firm.

Organizing and maintaining the documents brief both in electronic and paper version.

Update records, preparing memoranda of progress on individual matters, diarizing telephone calls.

Draft documents for review by lawyer responsible for matters (pleading, Affidavits of Documents, Notices of Examination for Discovery, Discovery Plans, Mediation memoranda, Requests to Admit, Directions, Agreements, Consents, Motion Materials, Settlement Memos, etc.).

Ensure appropriately thorough and timely document production by all parties to actions.

Arrange legal examinations for clients manage all scheduling.

Review examination for discovery transcripts to compile undertakings and refusals and follow up in a timely manner.

Draft correspondence to clients, experts, other parties, witnesses, etc…as needed.
